Lake View Lodge & Outdoor Bath

Peaceful, beautiful land and property. A guest appearance from Monty was appreciated :) Positive: Location was beautiful and very private. I just loved being there Negative: If I had to be critical, it was a little bit dark inside property because I’m a natural light kind of person

NO access to deck from lodge, very claustrophobic! Positive: The location was as expected and very remote, which is what I was looking for - privacy and tranquility. Although make sure you are okay with cows as opened the door to attempt to access the deck via the separate gate to be confronted by an entire herd of cows thundering through! I prefer self check-in and appreciated being able to access the key via the lock box. Negative: Listing not clear deck isn’t accessible from lodge, wouldn’t have booked if I had known. Breakfast bar and small window, where you’d expect door to deck. Had to leave via front door and enter via stiff and difficult to open and close, garden gate. Deck looked sad and worn compared to pictures. Poorly maintained, nettles overgrowing deck, cushions mouldy. Needed to bring own charcoal to use the pizza oven/bbq, important as no shops within walking distance. Hammock mouldy and unusable, accessible only by climbing down off high deck (into nettles) or walking around outside of the property and in via a field gate, through stinging nettles. Didn’t look like the pictures. Freezer so iced up fridge door wouldn’t shut, spent first evening defrosting it. Cupboards contained old food and spiders throughout. Not okay when charged a cleaning fee. A wasps' nest in the lodge soffit, above the outdoor bath made the deck unusable. Almost 24 hours after reporting it, nothing had been done, couldn't use the bath, sit outside or open windows - unbearable in heat and no fans in the accommodation. Final straw - two people letting themselves into the lodge while I was in bed. Received no contact from host with explanation or apologies, i had to reach out to them. As a lone female, I no longer felt safe and had to leave. Despite being unable to use key facilities, not feeling safe and having to abandon (thus ruin) my stay, i offered to pay the first night. However also charged the (disproportionate) cleaning fee, even though I brought own bedding, defrosted the freezer (had to) and left the lodge cleaner than I found it. I would have appreciated a goodwill gesture considering how awful my experience was.

Cosy and quiet lake house Positive: The outdoor bathtub was a bonus at 11 PM after a long day of work. To listen to the birds and insects while taking a soothing bath was divine Negative: The electric sign outside had a short circuit that didn't fit close to bath tub . please fix that

Peaceful location Positive: The rooms were lovely and spacious, and very nicely decorated with some lovely touches. There were plenty of electric plug sockets and plenty of toilet rolls :-) The outdoor bath was nice, the outdoor furniture could do with updating and maybe a small covered outdoor area. The area down to the lake is overgrown, but perhaps that is how the owners prefer it. I loved the country walks all around, however the property was further from East Grinstead town than we realised, and was a long drive down a narrow one track lane. Negative: There were extreme heat conditions during our stay, some electric fans would have been a very helpful addition.

Amazing accommodation beautiful location there was nothing to fault. I miss the place already. Positive: Beautiful location and accommodation was so well thought out and decorated. The cows mooing in the morning and ducks quacking was music to my ears. Negative: Nothing.
